GARY | Radio Disney is teaming up with Managed Health Services to “adopt a school” and teach local students about healthy living.
“Rosie’s Rockin’ Recess” takes place at 1:30 p.m. today at Grissom Elementary School, 7201 W. 25th Ave.
The event brings the Radio Disney Road Crew, along with MHS mascot RosieRoo, to Grissom for a variety of student activities, including hula hoop challenges, dance offs and jump rope contests, to show kids how they can get exercise while they play.
Eric A. Yancy, M.D., MHS chief medical officer and practicing pediatrician, will talk with students about their health and the importance of staying active. During the program, Dr. Yancy will also present Grissom Elementary School with a financial donation on behalf of MHS. Educational books and healthy materials and prizes will be given out to the students, and all games and activities will be choreographed to Radio Disney music.
“This program is an exciting opportunity for MHS to support Indiana schools,” said MHS President and CEO Patrick Rooney. “The kids receive a fun lesson about being healthy and the school receives financial support for their athletic programs.”
In addition, MHS will host a Healthy Lifestyle event for parents, staff and the Gary community at 4:15 p.m. at the school. This free, healthy living program is educational, interactive and fun.
It will include healthy meal planning and a cooking demonstration with free tasting samples from a nutritionist, along with a demonstration from a personal fitness trainer who will discuss the importance of exercise and weight management and free health screenings. MHS will be onsite with general health information and giveaways. Information on nutrition will also be provided.
