GARY | Are you ready to rumble? The internationally renowned Harlem Globetrotters will bring their bag of tricks to Gary’s Genesis Center Jan. 23.
The fun actually begins before the game. Fans are encouraged to vote for new rules to be enforced each quarter of the game at http://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/event/harlem-globetrotters-genesis-convention-center. Choices include double point shots, four point shots, a penalty box, 6 on 5, and the use of two basketballs. Each tally is announced prior to the start of the first, second and third quarters. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, fans in the stadium vote for their choice.
The Globetrotters, who have been entertaining fans for 87 years, also offer at some games Magic Passes enabling fans to enter early and meet the players on the gym floor prior to the game for photographs, autographs, and a chance to shoot a basket and to twirl a basketball.
Their theme song “Sweet Georgia Brown” announces the arrival of the Globetrotters players on the gym floor. “Spider,” “Firefly,: “Be Nice,” “Special K,” “Too Tall,” who is actually short, and “Tiny,” who is actually 7 feet 8 inches tall, entertain with their basketball skills and antics throughout the game. A female player has joined their ranks. Mascot Globey roams through the stands interacting with fans and between quarters engaging little fans in musical chairs.
On Ticketmaster, tickets range in price from $12 to $50 with group discounts available through the Globetrotters. The game begins at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.
