GARY| Men at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center received new bathrobes, socks and ties recently, purchased from contributions by members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Munster and First Presbyterian Church of Highland and through a Legacy Foundation Fund begun by Westminster member Charlene Rossa.
The Gary ARC provides free, long-term, in-house rehabilitation for men coping with substance abuse and or social problems. The facility, which provides residential housing, group and individual counseling and work therapy, is run by Captains Robb and Lynn Buttrey. Physical and spiritual components prepare participants for a return to society and steady employment.
Participants are interviewed and screened to determine if this is the best program for the individual. Commitments are a minimum of six months to break poor life skill habits and influence positive choices and decision making. Becoming productive drug and alcohol-free citizens is the longterm goal.
