CROWN POINT | A Highland woman was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison for her role in assisting the killer of an alleged drifter.
Andrea Elliott, 35, the girlfriend of Calvin Peacock, of Gary, told police last year she and Peacock found the man sleeping on the couch of the home she shared with Peacock.
Peacock, 33, was sentenced in October to 33 years in prison in the 2009 killing of Kevin Sperry whose body was found buried behind Peacock's home after Elliott's statement to police.
Peacock had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, agreeing to the 33-year sentence, in exchange for the state dismissing murder charges.
He admitted to hitting Sperry in the head with a pick ax when the men got into an argument after Sperry was discovered in the home.
Elliott told police she woke to Peacock screaming at Sperry, who had been struck with a pick ax before Peacock slit his throat.
Peacock was reported forcing Elliott to clean up the bloody scene and help bury Sperry in the yard.
After Elliott told her father of the killing, the family's attorney contacted the Indiana State Police to whom Elliott provided a statement.
