GARY | On April 27, Indiana University Northwest will host a free Money Smart Resource Fair aimed at teaching people strategies for better money management. Money Smart offers adults sound strategies and advice for stretching their dollars further, avoiding scams and pitfalls, and investing in a more secure financial future.
The free fair at IU Northwest will take place from 8 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Attendees should check-in in the Moraine Student Center.
There will be four breakout sessions for attendees to choose from. Session times include: 8:30 until 9:15 a.m.; 9:30 until 10:15 a.m.; 10:30 until 11:15 a.m.; and 11:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.
Informative breakout sessions include:
·Healthy Eating on a Healthy Budget (sessions starting at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. will be in Spanish)
·Be All the YOU Can Be – Protect Your Identity
·Borrowing Basics & Financial Recovery
·How to Start a Business
·How to Protect Your Future
·How to Build Credit
·Financial Aid Awareness (session only offered at 9:30 a.m.)
·Getting Jobs and Internships, New Strategies (session only offered at 11:30 a.m.)
Money Smart sessions for students in sixth through 12th grade will also be offered:
·Money Bingo – 8:30 a.m.
·Keeping Your Balance – The Importance of Managing a Budget – 9:30 a.m.
·Savvy Shopper – The Advantages and Disadvantages of using Cash and Credit – 10:30 a.m.
·Keeping Score – Learn about Credit Scores – 11:30 a.m.
Coordinated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and its Money Smart partners, Money Smart Week - Indiana is designed to educate consumers about money management and create awareness of financial education programs on a wide range of topics, such as budgeting, saving and using credit wisely. Other educational activities will be presented throughout Northwest Indiana by local community groups, government agencies, businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations.
