South Shore Dance Alliance performs

IUN will present a celebration of African-American history featuring the South Shore Dance Alliance at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium, Savannah Center, 3400 Broadway.

South Shore Dance Alliance is a performing company and dance studio and the flagship occupant of the new South Shore Centre for the Arts in Gary's Miller neighborhood.

Home to award-winning dancers, instructors and choreographers, SSDA was founded on the principles of a strong work ethic, outstanding discipline, technical expertise, and a love and passion for dance embraced by students, performers and audiences.

Tickets are $10 and are available through Theatre Northwest. For reservations, call (219) 980-6808. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Society to host leadership speakers

IUN Chapter of the National Society of Leadership & Success will host a Spring semester lineup of internationally known speakers via a live satellite feed.

The events will provide attendees with inspiration and motivation to realize their full potential. The public is invited to join the campus at these free events.

"Play is Serious Business" is the topic at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the Gallery for Contemporary Art, also located in the Savannah Center.

Presenter Kevin Carroll is an author, speaker and agent for social change, inspiring individuals to embrace the spirit of play and creativity.

He has trained school children, employees and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies to maximize their human potential. He is the author of the best-selling book "What's Your Red Rubber Ball?" which focuses on helping individuals discover their dreams.

"How to Get What You Want - In the REAL World" will be presented at 6 p.m. March 20 by Mel Robbins, host and star of the A&E Network's hit television series, "Monster In-laws."

Her video presentation will be held in the Gallery for Contemporary Art, Savannah Center.

Robbins, the best-selling author of "Stop Saying You're Fine, Discover a More Powerful You," provides advice on success, relationships and careers, primarily through her daily syndicated radio show.

The Ivy League-educated lawyer also writes a monthly column for SUCCESS magazine.

Order cap, gown and more

Students participating in Indiana University Northwest's 2012 commencement ceremonies should plan to stop by the IUN Grad Fair to order graduation apparel between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 1 in the Library Conference Center, room 105ABC.

All IU campus participants will be robed in custom-made black rental gowns. Associate and Bachelor graduates will be able to keep the crimson satin "stole of remembrance" that is worn over the gown, as well as the cap and tassel.

Staff members and volunteers will be on hand to assist graduates with gown orders at Grad Fair and to answer any questions regarding commencement.

Gown rental costs are $50 for bachelor's and associate's degree candidates and $70 for master's degree candidates. Kiosks will be set up in the Library Conference Center during Grad Fair for students to place orders by credit or debit card only.

After next week's event, orders can be placed online at www.herffjones.com/iu until March 29, but after March 22, a $25 fee will be imposed for late orders.

A representative from Herff-Jones will display other items available, including diploma frames, souvenir tassels, class rings, announcements and more. All who order during Grad Fair will be entered in a drawing for a variety of gifts.

The 2012 IU Northwest Commencement will take place at 4 p.m. May 10 at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary. Gowns must be returned immediately following the ceremony.
