GARY | An Indiana University Northwest officer was injured in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Ridge Road and Van Buren Street in Gary, officials said.
Officer Michael Trueblood, 22, was hurt in the wreck and taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, IUN spokeswoman Emily Banas stated in an email.
The crash happened at 1:05 p.m. as Trueblood, who has been with the department for a year, was responding to a nearby emergency.
Trueblood, with his emergency lights and sirens on, was traveling south on Van Buren Street, Gary police said. He crashed as he entered the intersection with a woman who was heading west on Ridge Road.
The driver of the other vehicle, who was not identified, also was injured and taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus.
It was unclear Monday evening what type of call Trueblood was responding to when the crash happened. Gary police said it was not a police pursuit.
