GARY | The Indiana University Northwest School of Business is offering free tax preparation for families making less than $50,000 annually.
The service begins Friday and continues on most Friday evenings through April.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at the Indiana University Northwest School of Business and Economics is offered free to qualifying families. The sessions are from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Dunes/Medical Professional Building at IUN.
Families are asked to bring all W-2 forms, 1099s, Social Security and government payment notices, any tax rebate amount received, and any other notices of income, mortgage interest, taxes paid, qualified tuition payments, contributions, rent paid, names and addresses of landlords and nay other tax-related information, and all family and dependent Social Security cards and birthdates.
Refunds are typically received within 10 days.
