GARY | A Lake Village man was charged with numerous offenses after leading Indiana State Police on a three-mile chase on the Borman Expressway early Tuesday.
A trooper saw Ted E. Compton, 38, of Lake Village, asleep behind the wheel of a 2003 Ford Taurus at 12:19 a.m. in a triangular area with white striped lines between the right lane of Interstate 80 and the Burr Street entrance ramp, according to Indiana State Police.
The trooper tapped on the window to try to wake Compton, who put the car into gear and drove away, police said.
State police chased Compton for three miles before he existed on Grant Street and pulled over onto the shoulder, police said.
Compton was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, being a habitual traffic violator and resisting law enforcement, police said.
Police said Compton was being held Tuesday morning at the Lake County Jail.
