GARY | Hoosier law firms are once again being asked to help fight hunger in Indiana.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller on Tuesday kicked off his sixth annual March Against Hunger food drive competition.
Lawyers throughout the state will compete to raise money and food donations for Indiana's 11 food banks, including the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana in Gary.
"This friendly food drive competition gives us an opportunity to highlight the struggles of food banks and those in need, particularly during this harsh winter when the costs of just heating your home have been significant,” Zoeller said.
The competition is separated into six divisions, which are based on the size of law offices. The winner from each division will receive the Attorney General's Cup.
Residents who aren't employed by Indiana law firms can participate in the food drive by contributing to participating law firms.
Law firms can visit www.marchagainsthunger.org or www.in.gov/attorneygeneral to register for the competition. A list of participating law offices also is available at the websites.
The deadline to donate is March 31.
During the 2013 March Against Hunger food drive, 10,065 pounds of food and $55,455 were donated.
