GARY | Northwest Indiana residents will be challenged Friday to raise money to buy holiday food baskets for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana's Hope for the Holidays campaign.
NIPSCO is offering a dollar-to-dollar match of up to $10,000 - enough to serve up to a goal of 1,000 families in communities across Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.
Fundraising for the campaign takes place during a live remote broadcast on WLTH Radio 1370-AM from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Urban League of Northwest Indiana's office at 3101 Broadway, Gary.
On-air pledges can be made by calling (219) 887-9621 or in person by visiting the Urban League of Northwest Indiana office in Gary or the Roberto Clemente Center at 3616 Elm St., East Chicago.
Food donations will also be accepted at both locations during the broadcast hours. The city of Gary is a sponsor in addition to the Urban League, the food bank and the radio station.
Representatives of the organizations will package the food at the Genesis Convention Center and distribute them to families in need.
