Beta Mu chapter of national sorority Phi Delta Kappa Inc., whose members are in the education field, has established a Krinon Club as a means of recruiting new members for the Gary/Merrillville chapter.
At the end of a pledge period, this year's new members participated in an induction ceremony led by the Dean of Pledges Mozelle Anderson and chapter Basileus Mary Holly.
This year's inductees are Lawanda Broadnax, and Verna L. Mohan, both of Gary; and Rubye L. James, Janora M. Holmes and Sharon Freeman-Moody, all of Merrillville.
The purpose of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. is to stimulate professional growth among teachers, foster true sisterhood, promote the highest teaching ideals and encourage the development of the potential of local youth.
Women holding a degree, who are duly certified by a federal or state department or by some equally comparable body and who are actively engaged in the field of education may become members of this sorority upon fulfillment of the rules and regulations pertaining to membership.
Current members recommend fellow teachers in local schools to become active members. The members must demonstrate how they can contribute to the inner workings of the sorority and serve as valuable members.
Krinon members who successfully adhere to the guidelines of the sorority by participating in a pledge period for four weeks to learn about the sorority, its work, and what role each will play in the goals and objectives, become eligible to join the sorority.
