GARY | A man shot and killed early Sunday near his home in Gary's Glen Park neighborhood has been identified.
Andrew Wilkins, 57, of the 5100 block of Georgia Street, was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m., a spokesman for the Lake County coroner's office said.
The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body suffered in an apparent homicide at 51st Place and Georgia Street, the spokesman said.
Police were called to the scene after receiving calls of gunshots heard by neighbors and found Wilkins bleeding in the street.
The release of Wilkins' identity was delayed while investigators worked to find and notify any next of kin.
Investigators determined Wilkins did not have any next of kin. Wilkins' pastor at a church in Chicago is taking responsibility for his services, the spokesman said.
Wilkins' homicide was the third in Gary last weekend.
Antoine Taylor, 19, of Gary, died of a gunshot wound Saturday. Bryan Cooke, 46, of Gary, died of multiple gunshot wounds Friday.
