GARY | A 24 year-old man was fatally shot and two children were wounded by gunfire Saturday in the Woodlake Apartment complex after an argument, police said.
Terrance Thompson died in a grassy area after being shot in the chest following an altercation with three men in the hallway of the apartment complex in the 500 block of Vigo Place, according to a Gary police news release.
Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:16 a.m. Sunday, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
A girl, 16, and a boy, 10, also were shot in the incident, police said.
The girl was struck in the abdomen while standing in the hallway. She was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus for treatment.
The boy was shot in the hand when a bullet came through the door of his apartment, the release states. He also was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury.
Police are working to identify the three men who reportedly were involved in the altercation with Thompson, the release states.
