GARY | A 74-year-old man was injured Sunday night when a man reportedly hit him in the head after demanding money.

According to reports, officers were called to the 4500 block of Massachusetts Street at approximately 8:40 p.m., where they found the victim bleeding from the head.

Police said the victim told officers he was raking leaves in front of his home when an unknown black male approached him and demanded money. The victim reportedly told the man he did not have any money, at which time the suspect hit him in the head with an unknown object.

Emergency paramedics were called to the scene to tend to the victim, who reportedly refused any additional medical treatment.
