GARY | Police said a 31-year-old Illinois man responding to an online classified ad was robbed Tuesday in the 500 block of North Lake Street.

The robbery occurred about 8:10 a.m. Police said the victim was responding to a Craig's List ad to buy an iPhone and that the seller identified himself as a policeman.

When the victim arrived at an apartment to make the purchase, he was robbed of his money, police said.

In a similar incident reported Sunday, a 37-year-old man from Hoffman Estates reported he was robbed by two men after responding to a Craig’s List ad to buy an undisclosed item.

The Gary Police Department warns any potential buyers use caution when making arrangements with an unknown party to purchase items on Craig’s List. Meeting in a public place is advised.
