GARY | A 23-year-old man told Gary police he heard someone say his name moments before he was shot, police said.
Gary police responded about 4:45 p.m. Monday to the 1700 block of West Fifth Avenue for a call of shots fired, Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
Officers found the wounded man, who said he saw a group of about 10 men standing in front of an apartment building as he arrived, King said.
The man said he heard someone say his name, then an unknown person shot him, King said. The group of men ran east on Fifth Avenue after the shooting.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
