GARY | A Gary man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting last month on the southbound Grant Street ramp to eastbound Interstate 80/94 turned himself in to police Monday.
Rickey Smith, 29, of Gary, surrendered to Lake County Police Monday afternoon, according to Indiana State Police. He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on murder charges.
At 10:39 a.m. Sept. 13, Tyron Hopkins, 44, of Gary was driving a 1995 Ford Escort on the ramp when another vehicle pulled up beside him. Prosecutors allege Smith shot at Hopkins from that vehicle before it fled the scene.
Hopkins was transported to The Methodist Hospitals' Northlake campus in Gary where he died that night.
