GARY | Mayor Freeman-Wilson had lunch at the Glen Ryan Park Pavilion with a group of Gary youth who are participating in the city’s Free Lunch and Recreation Summer Program in mid-June.
The program began June 17 at 12 sites around the city and is being facilitated by the Parks Department and the Youth Services Bureau. In addition to receiving a healthy lunch, youth will participate in recreational and educational activities.
After lunch, Mayor Freeman-Wilson headed to the playground for a little recreation of her own with the youngsters.
“The start of recreation programs is definite proof that summer is officially here,” Mayor Freeman-Wilson said. “We are pleased to offer this free program to our youth to give them something positive to do this summer.”
The program takes place Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For a complete list of locations, visit gary.in.us or call the Parks Department (219) 886-7099.
