GARY | During the month of May the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District will feature student art work from the Wirt-Emerson Visual and Performing Arts High Ability Academy. As part of this collaboration choral, instrumental and dance performances will also take place on two different weekends.
May 11 will feature four high school groups at the district’s art gallery located at 540 Lake Street. The four high school groups include the highly acclaimed Concert Choir, directed by Mrs. Marion Lynn Boynes, a Dance Ensemble directed by Mr. Larry Brewer just finishing their Nina Simone Tribute, a woodwind quintet from the band department, directed by Ms. Lea Larson, and a string quartet from the Orchestra Department directed by Mr. Rovelli Grib.
On May 17 two younger groups will perform at the district’s art gallery. These featured groups are the Junior High Choir, directed by Mrs. Kamille Brinker, and a Dance Troupe in a tribute to Michal Davis, a recently retired and long time dance instructor at Wirt-Emerson. As part of the evening a documentary film will be shown. It is entitled, “What We Sow,” and was produced by Mrs. Carolyn McCrady about the success of Wirt-Emerson over its 25 year history because of its priority for the arts.
The performances will begin at 7:00 pm on both evenings and admission is free to the public.
