GARY | Two men were arrested on gun and drug charges Tuesday after police said they recovered stolen weapons and an undisclosed amount of marijuana from their vehicle during a traffic stop near the 4800 block of California Street.

Police said Cory Anderson, 23, faces possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, operating a vehicle while never receiving a license, having a gun with no permit and false informing charges. His passenger, identified as Demetrius Wilson, 21, was charged with having a gun with no permit, felon in possession of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of marijuana.

Police said the two men were pulled over by officers after they noticed an equipment violation on the vehicle. As officers got closer to the vehicle, they reportedly smelled what was later determined to be raw marijuana. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two handguns that had been reported stolen, police said.
