GARY | Larry Lapidus, Lyric Opera of Chicago lecturer and Near North Chapter program director, will introduce the documentary “Judy Garland: The Concert Years” at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, 540 S. Lake St.

Presented by the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District, admission is $12 for the lecture and screening, with refreshments.

Produced in 1985, the film focuses on a seldom-seen side of the legendary star of “The Wizard of Oz,” “Easter Parade” and the Andy Hardy films.

Narrated by daughter Lorna Luft, “The Concert Years” highlights Garland’s “second career” after her years at MGM. Many live performances are featured.

Lapidus said the film sent him over the rainbow with admiration of Garland’s talents. “I was once again reminded of her amazing energy, interpretative style and, above all, the quality of her voice,” he said.
