GARY | A new principal has been named to lead Gary Roosevelt College and Career Academy.
Donna Henry, who currently serves as director of the Collegiate Academy of Theodore Roosevelt, has been appointed interim principal of the school. Henry replaces Terrance Little, who took a job with the Gary Community School Corp.
Vanessa Ronketto, who serves as superintendent of Roosevelt College and Career Academy, said in a statement Tuesday that Henry is an accomplished teacher and administrator.
Henry served as academy director for the Chicago International Charter School’s Longwood Campus before coming to Gary. Henry holds a master's degree from St. Xavier University in Chicago and a bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State University, Ronketto said.
Henry's experience and knowledge perfectly position her to take on this new role, Ronketto said.
"We appreciate the contributions made by Terrance Little, and recognize the significant role he has played in helping to establish a foundation for quality learning at Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy," Ronketto said in the statement. "Everyone associated with Theodore Roosevelt wishes him the very best in his future endeavors."
Roosevelt is one of five academically troubled Indiana schools taken over by the state a couple of years ago and turned over to private operator EdisonLearning.
