GARY | A man was shot to death and another was injured Sunday afternoon on the 2550 block of West 13th Avenue in Gary, police said.
Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram said authorities responded at 3:55 p.m. to shots being fired and found one man who had been shot in the middle of the street.
Police hovered over a second man who was found dead from a gunshot wound in bushes outside a nearby house. Ingram said it appears the man was trying to run away when he collapsed on the front lawn of the house.
The Lake County coroner's office did not release any information Sunday evening.
The man found in the middle of the street was taken to Methodist Hospitals North Lake Campus is Gary, Ingram said.
Authorities had not released identities of the two menĀ as of Sunday evening.
Ingram said officers were canvassing the neighborhood Sunday trying to piece together what happened. He said detectives didn't know what led to the shooting and there weren't any identified suspects.
A crowd gathered near the crime scene, but they all declined to comment.
An unidentified man smoked a cigarette inside a vehicle and said he had been working on his car when he went to the store to buy parts. The area was roped off by police when he returned.
