GARY | The westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were temporarily closed Tuesday after a semitruck's load of aluminum sheeting fell on the road.
A 2006 Volvo semitruck was heading west about 1:28 p.m. near the Burr Street exit when another semitruck pulled in front of it, causing the driver to brake sharply, Indiana State Police said.
The Volvo semitruck was carrying 46,641 pounds of aluminum sheeting, and about one-fourth of the load fell on the westbound lanes, police said.
The driver, Philip Johnson, 50, of Haviland, Ohio, was not injured. There were no reported injuries, and the aluminum did not damage any vehicles.
Johnson was given a citation because he had an expired medical card, police said.
All lanes were open by 3 p.m.
