HAMMOND | Two men were arrested Wednesday after attempting to buy 10 kilograms of cocaine from an undercover officer at a Gary truck stop, federal court records show.

Vincente Osorio and Manuel Gomez de Dios each appeared in U.S. District Court on a charge of attempted possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Osorio and Gomez de Dios were arrested about 11 a.m. after exchanging cash for sham cocaine in the parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center, 2501 Burr St., Gary, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court.

In a phone conversation with the undercover officer, Gomez agreed to pay $27,000 per kilogram of cocaine, the affidavit states. The men allegedly planned to pay for 5 kilograms and take another 5 kilograms on credit.

The men were introduced to the undercover officer by a confidential informant, the affidavit states.
