CROWN POINT | Eight area law enforcement agencies swept Gary and the Calumet area of East Chicago on Friday resulting in 18 arrests, the office of Lake County Sheriff John Buncich announced Monday.
In addition to detaining 16 adults in the Lake County Jail, two juveniles were admitted to the Lake County Juvenile Center, according to the sheriff's news release.
"These sweeps will continue with frequent similar operations to curb gang violence and drug problems in our community," Buncich stated in the news release.
Those arrested and charged were:
Rafe Johnson, 60, Gary City warrant; Chantel Lipson, 24, possession of narcotics; Dan Hardy, 21, driving while suspended, failure to appear; Correall Day, 21, theft; Theis Johnson, 39, failure to appear; Myles Thomas, 18, pistol, no permit; Richard Long, 25, possession of a controlled substance; Shalon Byrd, 26, operating while intoxicated, refusal; Nashay McFerson, 22, failure to appear, driving while suspended; Renee Carter, 58, failure to appear, operating while intoxicated; Gordon Crowther, 61, failure to appear; Latonya Rash, 38, warrant, probation; Trecia Callion-Green, 45, warrant; Antonio Patterson, 22, failure to appear; Antleno Mitchell, 22, possession of marijuana, pistol no permit; Ernest Murphy, 42, parole violation.
In addition to the Sheriff's Department, the following law enforcement agencies took part in the sweep:
The Gary, East Chicago, Griffith and Schererville police departments, Indiana State Police, Indiana Parole and Indiana University police, Lake County Transportation, Lake County Correctional Officers, Lake County Gang Unit, Lake County Interdiction Unit and Lake County Warrant Unit.
