GARY | Police said a man suspected to be involved in a store robbery earlier this month is believed to be the same individual responsible for cutting a 21-year-old man multiple times during an attempted robbery at an establishment in the 5400 block of West 25th Avenue Monday afternoon.
According to reports, officers were called to the Cricket Wireless store at approximately 2:26 p.m. Police said the victim, who works at the store, reported that a man came in to the store appearing to look interested in buying a cell phone, but then left.
The victim told police the same man came back to the store a short time later wearing a blue hat and a dark hood and pulled out a knife demanding money.
Police said the victim reported the suspect began to cut him with the knife, causing lacerations on the victim’s face, legs and left arm before fleeing on foot.
The victim was transported to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary for treatment of non-life threatening wounds, according to Gary Police Lt. Delmar Stout. No money was reported stolen.
Stout said investigators believe the assailant could be the same person suspected in a similar incident that occurred at a nearby store on April 18. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.
