CROWN POINT | Prosecutors on Thursday filed murder charges against a witness in a murder case who in recent weeks had named another person as the killer.
Jacqueline Kennedy, 18, of Gary, is charged with murder and murder in the perpetration of a robbery in the shooting death of a man found in the street after leaving his home to go to the store.
Kennedy was a key witness in the case against Anthony Hood, 18, of Gary, who was similarly charged April 22 in connection with the shooting of Richard Taylor, 25.
Taylor was shot multiple times Dec. 17 in the 900 block of Aetna Street.
When officers arrived, they found two men fleeing the scene on foot, court records state.
Hood was accused of shooting Taylor while he and a friend were looking for a robbery victim.
Kennedy admitted eight days later to shooting Taylor, court records state. Kennedy told police she initially did not plan to shoot anyone, only to rob someone because she had no money and her birthday was the next day, court records state.
Kennedy admitted a second person was with her, but she would not identify the person, court records state.
Charges against Hood remained in effect Thursday.
