GARY | A Popeye's restaurant and one of its patrons were robbed at gunpoint Monday night, police said.

The manager and several employees were working at the restaurant at 1080 Broadway when two men entered through the north doors to the building at 8:26 p.m., police said.

One of the men jumped over the counter and demanded the manager open both cash registers, police said. The manager told police the suspect had a gun but did not point it at anyone.

As that man was demanding money from the manager, the other man allegedly robbed a patron in the lobby with a black handgun.

Both men then left the restaurant, police said.

The man who took money from the register is described as a heavy set, black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with green jeans and a black mask.

The other man is described as thin, black with a light complexion and wearing a black hoodie.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Detective Ed Gonzalez at (219) 881-4754.
