GARY | Renowned educator and author Bernard C. Watson will visit Gary Wednesday and Thursday.

Watson will participate in a conversation about education from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gary City Council Chambers at Gary City Hall, 401 Broadway.

Watson also will visit the Bernard C. Watson Academy for Boys in Gary at 8:30 a.m. Thursday as part of the Gary Community School Corp.'s Black History Month celebrations. He will speak to students and visit other Gary schools as time allows.

Watson’s career reflects quality achievements and strong leadership. He is chairman of the board of trustees of the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.

Until 2004, he was a Presidential Scholar at Temple University, an appointment made following his retirement at the end of 1993 as president and CEO of the William Penn Foundation in Philadelphia. He assumed that position in 1981 after a career as a teacher and educator in public schools in Indiana and Pennsylvania, and, at Temple University, as professor of urban studies and urban education and academic vice president.
