GARY | Gary Police are investigating a Gary school bus accident in which a youngster was hit.

The incident occurred at 3:55 p.m. Feb. 13 in the 4400 block of West 24th Avenue in Gary.

A driver for Illinois Central, which provides bus transportation for the Gary Community School Corp., said he was driving at the intersection of 24th Avenue and Clark Road after releasing children from the school bus.

According to the report, the driver asked the children to move away from the street so he could pass and once the children cleared, he proceeded. The report said he was a half block away when he was flagged down and told he hit one of the children.

The report said two brothers were playing and one of them pushed the other into the roadway. The youngster fell and was struck by the rear bus driver's side tire. No information is available on the student or his condition.

Gary school spokeswoman Sarita Stevens declined to comment, saying the family has hired an attorney.
