GARY | A 32-year-old South Dakota man faces multiple charges after being arrested early Friday morning for allegedly soliciting a prostitute at a truck stop in the 2500 block of Burr Street.
Police said the incident occurred around 4 a.m. at the T/A Truck Stop. An off-duty Gary police sergeant who was working at the establishment reportedly encountered a woman on the property trying to solicit truckers.
The sergeant instructed the woman to leave and she complied, only to come back a short time later with a man who has been identified as Lenn D. Josephson, a resident of South Dakota. The unknown female told the officer Josephson was her boyfriend but that she didn't know his name, according to the arrest record.
The off-duty officer reportedly confronted the two, which resulted in the arrest of Josephson when he allegedly refused to remove his hands from his pockets. Josephson told the officer he was just a security guard and did not have to do as told.
While attempting to arrest Josephson, the sergeant reported Josephson became combative and tried to resist. A truck driver and another employee then reportedly came to the aid of the sergeant and assisted him in getting handcuffs on Josephson, who has been charged with soliciting a prostitute and resisting arrest.
Police said Josephson also has an active warrant for sexual battery in Oklahoma, but that the state of Oklahoma is not going to extradite him on the warrant.
