CROWN POINT | A second man has died in the wake of a double homicide Sunday in Gary.
Charles Wood, 18, was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m. Monday at Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary, according to a news released issued by the Lake County coroner's office.
Wood, of the 1100 block of Bigger Street in Gary, died from a gunshot wound to the head, the release stated.
The Lake County coroner's office earlier Monday identified 19-year-old Shaqwone Ham as having died during a double shooting on the 2500 block of West 13th Avenue in Gary.
Ham, also of the 1100 block of Bigger Street in Gary, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the body, according to the coroner's office.
The deaths were ruled homicide.
Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram said Sunday authorities responded at 3:55 p.m. to shots being fired.
Police found Ham's body in bushes outside a nearby house and Wood wounded in the middle of the street, he said.
Ingram said it appeared Ham was trying to run away when he collapsed on the front lawn of the house.
Wood was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus for treatment.
Police said the investigation continued Monday with detectives pursuing leads.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Gary Detective Lorenzo Davis at (219) 881-1214.
