GARY | An adult brother and sister were both shot in the hand after a gun the brother gave the sister went off, Gary police said.

A 60-year-old Gary man was showing his 58-year-old sister a handgun about 3:30 p.m. in the 500 block of New Jersey Street, police Cpl. Gabrielle King said. The gun went off, and a bullet hit both in the hand, King said.

The man was giving the sister the gun for her protection, King said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Larry Robertson at (219) 881-7545.
