GARY | An elevator and escalator that take passengers up to the South Shore platform at the Gary Metro Center station are back in service after being shut down due to a failed inspection last week.

Both were operational again Friday afternoon.

A failed inspection on Wednesday forced both to be taken out of service indefinitely, making the station inaccessible to disabled commuters. Officials said the elevator and escalator would be out of service until repairs were made and both passed a secondary inspection.
