The newly formed Spirit Team at The Arc Northwest Indiana’s main center in Gary kicked off its community service efforts with a tailgate party on Jan. 7. In honor of the BCS National Championship Football game, and to celebrate the University of Notre Dame, staff wore their favorite Indiana team sports shirt and enjoyed a lunch time Appetizer Challenge.
For a donation to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, staffers could sample 15 different appetizers that were prepared by fellow staffers, and vote on their favorite. During the taste testing, diners were quizzed on their knowledge of the University of Notre Dame football program while enjoying the company of co-workers.
The event was a success, with approximately 50 pounds of food being donated to the food pantry.
Congratulations went to Dorothy Zolcak, the winner of the Appetizer Challenge with her Texas Caviar.
The Spirit Team will be planning two to three events per month, based around holidays and special happenings. Arc of Northwest Indiana also has centers in Crown Point, Highland and Hobart.
