Suspected narcotics recovered from vehicle in Gary
GARY | Canine officers found about seven pounds of suspected heroin Monday in an East Glen Park home, police said.
Gary police were conducting patrols in the 3700 block of Rhode Island Street when they saw a person run from the backyard of a residence, according to a news release.
Officers saw doors and garages on the property were open and began to investigate what they believed was a burglary in progress, police said.
The dogs were released to search for remaining suspects, the release states. While searching, one dog alerted officers to narcotics inside one of the vehicles in a garage, police said.
Officers called detectives from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and found about seven pounds of suspected heroin inside the vehicle, the release states.
A stolen handgun and a money counter were recovered, officials said. HIDTA officials are investigating the case, no arrests were made at the scene Monday, police said.
