MONDAY

Mayors roundtable at PUC

HAMMOND | Purdue University  Calumet kicks off its weeklong Martin Luther King holiday celebration with a mayoral roundtable discussion on the power for peace, reconciliatory healing and transformation. It features the mayors of Gary, East Chicago, Hammond and Lake Station and runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the in the Students Union and Library Building in Alumni Hall. The dialogue is an hour and followed by a ribbon cutting for the Building a Culture of Peace for the Children of the World Exhibition on campus.

Youth corps Gospel Awards

GARY | The African-American Achievers Youth Corps Inc. hosts the second annual Stellar Gospel Awards – Gary Style. from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Glen Theater, 20 W. Ridge Road, Gary. The winners for each category, selected by public balloting, will be announced at the celebration. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Money Matters workshop

HAMMOND | A Money Matters workshop will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hammond Housing Authority, 1402 173rd St.  Participants will learn how to understand where their money goes, prepare a budget, maintain a spending diary, and find hidden savings opportunities. Vets offered benefits pointers

CROWN POINT | Bickford Assisted Living & Memory Care hosts a free seminar for wartime veterans from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St. Families will learn about benefits they may be entitled to for assisted living. Learn about the Aid and Attendance Benefit for wartime benefits for veterans and their surviving spouses. K of C serves spaghetti meal

MERRILLVILLE | Msgr. Ralph Hoffmann Knights of Columbus Council 13003 serves a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall, 200 E. 78th Ave., Merrillville. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, bread and coffee. Soft drinks will be available, as will adult beverages. Desserts also available. The council supports many ministries within the parish and beyond. The cost is $7 adults, $3 children 6 to 12, free for children 5 and younger.

SCHERERVILLE | The second annual Celebrity Server Night is from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Amarillo Roadhouse, 1924 U.S. 41, Schererville. Lake Central High School football players serve dinner. GRIFFITH | The Griffith Public Schools Educational Foundation holds its 22nd annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Griffith High School cafeteria, 600 N. Wiggs St. The cost is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children.

Black tie ball aids Steen center

HAMMOND | The Community Center Development Corp. presents the 27th annual Black and White Ball from 6 p.m. to midnight at Dynasty Banquets, 4125 Columbia Ave. The black tie event benefits the Ophelia Steen Family and Health Service Center. Cost is $60.

Astronaut signs book copies

VALPARAISO | Crown Point native and astronaut Col. Jerry Ross signs copies of his book "Spacewalker: My Journey in Space and  Faith" from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble at 150 Silhavy Road, Valparaiso.
