GARY | Two suspects in a Glen Park burglary died Wednesday morning after the car they were in left the road and crashed into two trees during a police pursuit, authorities said.

A third man, a passenger in the car, was injured and transported to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus, police said.

Ronnie Arthurs, 17, of Chicago, and Andre Carradine, 19, of Gary, died of blunt force trauma and were pronounced dead about 11:15 a.m. by the Lake County coroner's office at the scene of the crash in the 4000 block of Monroe Street.

The injured man had not been identified. All three were suspects in a Gary house burglary.

Gary police were called by a resident at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a burglary in progress, said Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King.

The first officer at the house saw three men in a Dodge Stratus with Illinois plates speed off, King said.

The officer put out a dispatch in reference to the vehicle and began to follow the car, which continued to make several turns disregarding traffic control devices, King said.

Other officers came into the area and responded and were able to keep the car, which continued to accelerate, in sight, King said.

The driver reportedly turned on Monroe Street and headed north at a high rate of speed before striking two trees, King said.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash, and Gary police will investigate the burglary, police officials said.

The county's Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the crash at 10:17 a.m. at the request of Gary police, said Lake County sheriff's spokeswoman Patti Van Til.
