GARY | A Valparaiso man was shot in the chest after picking up a female friend from her boyfriend's house, Gary police said.
The man picked up the woman shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday from her home in the 1800 block of Connecticut Street, Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King said. The pair left in the man's car when the woman's live-in boyfriend allegedly followed on his bicycle.
The boyfriend caught up with the car in the 2500 block of Broadway, where he allegedly pulled a gun to threaten the couple. King said the two men struggled and the Valparaiso man was shot in the chest. The boyfriend fled on foot, King said.
The victim was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning, Gary police Detective Larry Robertson said.
