GARY | State police are investigating a road rage incident after reports of a motorist shooting a vehicle Thursday evening on Interstate 80/94 near Grant Street.
An Orland Park, Ill., woman was driving westbound in the left lane at 9:03 p.m. when a dark-colored pickup truck driven by an older man came up behind her, according to the Indiana State Police.
The pickup proceeded to tailgate the woman's vehicle for about a mile and attempted to force her vehicle into the concrete median barrier wall.
After the woman changed lanes, the man then attempted to push her vehicle to the right with his pickup truck, according to Indiana State Police.
He then waived a handgun into the air and the woman heard a “bang” and saw a hole in her passenger side door.
While the bullet didn't hit the woman, she received an abrasion from a shard of plastic from the passenger side door striking her hand.
The man then exited off Cline Avenue. He is described as white, with white hair and wearing a baseball cap.
Police believe a small caliber handgun was used in the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call Indiana State Police Det. Campione at (219) 696-6242.
