GARY | Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joseph Biden, will visit this city's Ivy Tech Community College campus Monday afternoon as part of her Community College to Career tour.
Kelly Hauflaire, vice president for the school's marketing, said Biden's tour highlights the unique role community colleges play in developing a flexible, highly skilled 21st century workforce to meet emerging regional business needs.
Jane Oates, an assistant secretary with the Department of Labor, will join Biden. Oates leads the Employment and Training Administration in its mission to design and deliver high-quality training and employment programs for the nation's workers.
"Ivy Tech is honored to host Dr. Biden and Assistant Secretary Oates to discuss the important role community colleges play in preparing students for the workforce," Ivy Tech Community College President Thomas J. Snyder said Friday. "Our partnerships with industry will ensure that our graduates are skilled and qualified to meet employer needs.
"It is the community college that is going to keep the middle class strong in our country and we look forward to these discussions with Dr. Biden."
