GARY | Two people are going to be thankful they bought lottery tickets in the region this week while thousands of others hope to have a happy Thanksgiving as the Powerball jackpot climbed to $250 million for Wednesday.
A local convenience store sold a winning $10.5 million Hoosier Lotto lottery ticket this week, Hoosier Lottery officials announced Sunday.
Nagra's Quick Mart, located at 4321 E. Dunes Highway in Gary, sold the Hoosier Lottery ticket with Saturday's winning numbers 10-14-16-20-24-26.
A Merrillville gas station also sold the first-ever winning Cash 5 ticket that was drawn on Thursday night.
The new Cash 5 drawing has a jackpot that starts at $50,000 and grows each time it isn't hit. The winning ticket drawn Thursday was worth $77,500.
A Highland gas station sold a $10 million winning Hoosier Lotto ticket in April.
Lottery officials gave away free Powerball tickets in Hammond on Friday. The $214 million Powerball also was not hit Saturday night, which brings the jackpot up to about $250 million for Wednesday's drawing.
Lottery officials are urging people to check their tickets carefully and to sign the back of any winning ticket.
