HAMMOND | A Gary woman faces charges of using Social Security benefits intended for her daughter.
Jennifer Kurek, 40, of Gary, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Hammond to one count of theft of government property. She is charged with stealing about $25,000 of Social Security benefits paid to her daughter.
The indictment covers two years, starting in April 2011. Judge John E. Martin is presiding over the case.
No trial date has been set.
