GARY | A car was crushed Thursday on the Interstate 80/94 ramp from Interstate 65 after a semi-flat bed lost its load of lumber.
Katrina Reillo, 31, of East Chicago, was in the car and managed to walk away from the crash with minor injuries, Indiana State Police said.
The crash happened at 2:59 p.m. as James Reynolds, 61, of Salem, Ind., drove too fast onto the I-80/94 westbound ramp, police said. The impact shifted the load of his lumber, which caused the semi-flat bed to rollover.
Reillo was driving a 2009 Nissan next to the semi and saw it was losing the load. Police said she laid across the console when the lumber began to crush the top of her car.
She was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, police said. Reynolds was treated and released at the scene.
Reynolds was cited on charges of speeding too fast to avoid a collision and having an unsecured load, police said. The semi is owned by Stonebelt Freight Lines in Bloomington, Ind.
