GARY | One person died and three others were injured during a residential fire Sunday morning at 4077 Louisiana St., Gary Deputy Fire Chief Mark Jones said.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene about 6:40 a.m.

Jones said the four occupants in the home suffered heat- and smoke-related injuries.

One of the victims, a 71-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus, Jones said.

The identity of the woman wasn't available late Sunday. The Lake County coroner's office couldn't immediately provide information about the case.

Two of the other victims also had to be hospitalized for their injuries, Jones said. One of those victims is a 9-year-old child, he said.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, but it remains under investigation, Jones said.
