CROWN POINT | A Gary woman was charged with neglect and battery after police were tipped to a YouTube post.
Rosena Small, 25, is accused of beating her 3-year-old son when the child failed to recite his ABCs to her satisfaction, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Police learned of Small on Dec. 11 through an email alleging videos had been posted on YouTube, court records state.
The videos showed Small yelling, hitting and throwing a small child across the room, the affidavit states.
Police observed Small hitting the child with a metal door stopper and breaking the child's toys with the door stopper, records state. The video also showed Small drag the child by the collar and place him in the hallway of an apartment complex in the 1800 block of West Fifth Avenue, the affidavit says.
The child is observed flinching, screaming and crying uncontrollably after Small strikes him and throws him across the floor, the affidavit states.
Small is alleged to have admitted she was the person in the video and the child is her son. Small told police a boyfriend posted the video when she decided to break up with him.
Small admitted to hitting the child but said she did not mean to hurt him, the affidavit says. She told police the events occurred in early November and the boyfriend began to threaten her after that, according to the affidavit.
