Griffith man charged in indecent exposure case

Jeremiah C. Hardin, 23, of Griffith, is accused of trying to disguise his car after police released a surveillance photo of the vehicle, right, in connection with an indecent exposure case. The car, left, had paint runs, over spray and outlines of the original condition.

GRIFFITH | A Griffith man was arrested Wednesday on charges alleging he exposed himself to a 15-year-old girl last month and offered her a ride, police said.

Jeremiah C. Hardin, 23, was identified as a suspect after receiving information about his vehicle from people who recognized it in surveillance photos, a news release said.

When police initially arrested Hardin on Oct. 7, paint runs, over spray and outlines of the original condition of his car indicated there had been recent attempts to disguise his vehicle, police said.

Hardin refused to speak to investigators and was released pending further investigation. The Lake County prosecutor's office charged Hardin on Friday with two misdemeanor counts of public indecency, court records show.

He's accused of pulling behind the girl in the area of Pine Street and Cline Avenue as she walked home from school.

Hardin asked her for directions to Taco Bell, and when she approached his car she could see he was exposing himself, police said.

Hardin has been released pending court proceedings, police said.
