CROWN POINT | Lake County Surveyor George Van Til said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reported progress in identifying and remedying the leak of a lubricant that pooled last week in a north county storm water drainage ditch.

Van Til said the owner of a leaking storage tank has been identified and is cooperating with authorities. He said the chemical is suspected of being a lubricant used to keep newly poured concrete from sticking to wooden molds used in foundations.

The lubricant was spotted last week floating on the surface of Cady Marsh Ditch, a seven-mile waterway flowing through Calumet Township, Griffith, Highland and Munster.
